Health Conditions

There are still high rates of HIV amongst Africans in Nottingham and the UK but recent improvements to HIV treatment mean that people living with HIV can expect to live longer. This is coupled with the documented susceptibility of people living with HIV to other related health conditions which means it is no longer possible to address HIV in isolation. The AISD has always been working with NHS Nottingham City and other local Health and community services in the city, county and the region to meet health and wellbeing needs. AISD work in partnership with local our African individuals and communities we serve.

Since Oct 2010, our National Umbrella the African Health Policy Network (AHPN) has taken a bold decision broadened its strategic priorities to include other health conditions that disproportionately affect Africans in the UK because of existing structural and socioeconomic factors.

Our national new focus is on:
– HIV and Sexual Health
– Tuberculosis
– Cancer
– Diabetes
– Stroke
– Mental Health
